Rainwater Hog
The Rainwater Hog is the ultimate in slim line water tanks .The Rainwater HOG is a multi-award-winning, long life 190 litre vessel which connects
horizontally or vertically with other HOGs to collect and store rainwater. Most tanks use either curved walls or corrugated ridges to strengthen the shape and prevent bulging. HOG uses the through-holes to form walls from one large side to the other. The through-holes brace the large flat sides of the tank whilst allowing water to flow freely when HOG is used on any of its faces. This unique combination of flat sides and through holes prevents water pooling, and allows HOG to be transported, repositioned and reused without losing its shape. The Hog fits neatly and sleekly where traditional rain barrels or cisterns cannot fit. It was also awarded a SPARK international design award and was named in Green Spec’s Top 10 Green Building Products for 2008
.
The tanks are designed for reuse, of 100% recyclable food grade plastic, worth up to 9 LEED points and is made in Australia
How Much Water will the HOG Store ?
Each tank holds 190 litres . Capacity can be increased at any time by simply screwing on another HOG module. The tanks modular
design means that you can link as many HOGs together to get any volume you require. To date the largest installation is over 117 HOGs !
What Colours can I get the Hog in?
The standard color is olive green as pictured . If you are interested non standard colors please contact us. Minimum order for non standard colours is 20 units /hogs.
How Can I install it ?
Hogs are easily installed using a level , plumbers tape, and simple saw . the Rainwater HOG can be installed vertically or horizontally, such as under a deck or beneath the floor boards. The HOG can be installed underground or above ground, and inside a building or outside. HOG has brass connectors to allow horizontal or vertical HOGs to be screwed together. You can also use HOG on its long side as a banquette seat/water storage system, but in order to connect the HOGs you would need to ask us for our special drill and seal connector system rather than using the brass threaded outlets. You can take a look at the install guides
What are the tanks Made from ?
Rainwater HOG is a food grade, medium density polyethylene tank with a UV8 UV stabilization rating. Rainwater HOG has four 1” NPT brass threaded connectors cast into each HOG – two at the top and two at the bottom of each tank for connection to additional HOGs. Each Rainwater HOG is supplied with a heavy duty glass fibre reinforced flexible nylon connection fitting approved for potable water applications.
What can I use the water for ?
Its important to know what you will use the rainwater for. In Australia there are many examples of homeowners installing massive e tanks which then sit, full and stagnating for months because they were not connected to irrigation systems. Once you know how much rainwater is at your disposal, work backwards to answer the following questions:
- what is your landscaped area
- what type of plants do you have
- do you use drip irrigation, sprinklers or a hose
- do you know the average evapotranspiration for the type of plants in your particular climate.
A single HOG can drip irrigate between 4 to 14 square feet of landscape for six months - making 189 litres of rainwater go a long, long way. So you do not need to harvest all of your monthly rainwater in order to irrigate. Just take what you need for irrigation, and potentially still have extra left for fire fighting or washing cars. The average Australians use 378 litres of water per day for household use including lawn care .
